Permanent Secretary of Rwanda’s Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources Dr. Olivier Kamana and Gao Wenqi, Ambassador of China to Rwanda, launched a one-month training course on Agricultural Products Processing and Preservation Technology.
Rwandan participants and Chinese experts attended the ceremony. Running from 19 Aug–17 Sept 2026, the course brings together 30 participants from public institutions, the private sector, academia and agribusiness.
Speaking at the launch, Permanent Secretary Dr. Olivier Kamana expressed appreciation to the Government of China for its continued support to Rwanda’s agricultural transformation and noted that the training comes at a decisive time as Rwanda implements PSTA5, which prioritizes value addition, agro-processing, post-harvest management and productivity growth.
The programme will equip participants with practical knowledge in modern processing technologies, post-harvest loss reduction, and quality and food safety management tailored to Rwanda’s priority crops. It will also strengthen institutions and enterprises, promote appropriate technologies, and advance Rwanda’s ambitions for agricultural value addition, commercialization, and competitiveness.
Ambassador Gao Wenqi noted that China-Rwanda agricultural cooperation has achieved positive results in recent years. Focusing on practical technologies for agricultural product processing and preservation, the training will help reduce post-harvest losses, increase the added value of agricultural products, and support the development of Rwanda’s agricultural sector.
The training course is sponsored by the Ministry of China and organized by the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries Co., Ltd. (End)
